Starting A Media Campaign for Mental Health Month

Overview
May is Mental Health Month, and CAMFT wanted to raise awareness of how marriage and family therapists can help individuals address their mental health issues. Media outreach focused on the mental health crisis in California, stressing that nearly half of those who need mental health treatment are not receiving it.
Strategy
The Gavilan team had three main objectives for this effort:

+ Position CAMFT leadership as experts.

+ Heighten awareness of a Marriage and Family Therapist’s ability to provide counseling not only related to marriage and family, but also for on bigger issues such as eating disorders, depression, and substance abuse.

+ Drive traffic to counselingcalifornia.com, CAMFT’s public website, where visitors can find a therapist.

The Gavilan team engaged MultiVu to schedule a Radio Media Tour for CAMFT’s president. We prepared all interview pitches and message points, and trained the CAMFT president on how to best participate in the interviews.

Result
Ten interviews occurred, generating 23 separate airings and reaching 2.7 million people. The interviews reached key markets such as Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and San Francisco, and emanated nationally through several syndicated outlets.
